Violins have been an important part of my work since the beginning. I now work with a number of different models: patterns derived from Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesu, which I value for their power and depth of sound; Peter Guarneri of Venice which are both bright and powerful; Paolo Maggini which have a sparkling E and a darker G, and Carlo Bergonzi, which are warm and rich. Whatever model I use, I aim to make violins which are responsive, and which have character and personality from new, developing further as the instrument is played. I choose my materials carefully for optimal sound qualities and appearance. My violins have been bought by orchestral players, chamber music players, students and teachers, and by the collections of the Royal College of Music and the Benslow Loan Scheme.
