Violins have been an important part of my work since the beginning. I've experimented with many different models but these days work mostly with patterns derived from Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesu, which I value for their power and depth of sound. I also enjoy making violins based on Paolo Maggini which have a sparkling E and a darker G, and Carlo Bergonzi, which are warm and rich.
Whatever model I use, I aim to make violins which are responsive, and which have character and personality from new, developing further as the instrument is played. I choose my materials carefully for optimal sound qualities and appearance.
My violins have been bought by orchestral players, chamber music players, students and teachers, and by the Royal College of Music and the Benslow Loan Scheme.
