Violin based on Peter Guarneri of Venice 1734 |

| I made this violin in
2010. The idea of trying this model came out of
discussions with style amongst my colleagues. I made the head in the
workshop of another maker who regularly makes violins based on Peter of
Venice, the idea being that we would each make a head for an violin of a
model that the other knew well but was less familiar to ourselves, and try to reproduce
as well as we could the spirit of the original. This went well, so I made the rest of the violin to
go with the head. The varnish is a warm golden-brown which I've
subtly worn and aged.
I like this model for its visual combination of power and grace. Acoustically it works well - its looks are matched by a sound which is both powerful and well-balanced yet sweet and bright. Click on the pictures for larger versions.
