I was lucky to have the chance to measure a  rare and stunning Gasparo da Salo cello a few years ago, and this is the first cello I made inspired by it.  The original belongs to Brandon Vamos of the Pacifica Quartet, and as a slightly small cello it’s very easy to play.  The sound is rich and powerful; the instrument is very responsive with a good, dark C string.

In common with may Gasparo instruments, the cello is decorated with a double row of purfling and there is decoration on the back.

The principal dimensions of the cello are as follows:

length of back: 734mm

string length: 672mm
