return
to small violas
I
made this viola for a first-study viola student at Chetham's - she has
now outgrown it and moved on to one of my 15-inch violas. The
viola has a strong and powerful sound and
can hold its own easily in a quartet or orchestra section. It's an
attractive instrument with a bird's eye maple back and a front from
spruce with a good strong grain - and the varnish is a warm golden
brown.
The
making of the ribs for this viola is described in the article I wrote
for the October 2007 issue of the Strad, which you can read here.
The
viola is now available again for sale - please contact me for more
information.
